How important is it to have a flexible spine? A question most of us don’t even consider. Especially as a new student you are probably wondering what are all the difference poses good for? Are they really effective? For instance, in Half Moon with Hands to Feet Pose you bend your spine in four different directions, lateral right and left and backward and forward bending. This moves the blood, oxygen and nutrients to areas that they usually wouldn’t get to. You are not only increasing blood flow to the spine, you are also affecting the entire skeletal and circulatory system. This posture helps eliminate lower back pain and sciatic nerve issue and tones the spinal nerves and abdominal organs. Another benefit is that it can relieve anxiety and stress. Proper alignment in this posture is important. Especially keeping hips and shoulders aligned in a straight line. The chin should be up and your heels firmly grounded on the floor. Your teacher will provide additional guidance throughout the posture and correct any improper posture. The Hatha Yoga postures that we practice in our Hot Yoga class are available to students at all levels. Everyone benefits all regardless if you are a beginner or an advanced student. The secret to getting deeper in the posture is to use your breath! Make Yoga a regular practice and watch your body get stronger, healthier and more flexible from the inside out.
